INFORMATION FOR FALL 2023 AND SPRING 2024

Registration Window:
The 2023 Fall Season registration is open for all children born between 1/1/2008 and 12/31/2019.  The proper division for your child(ren) will appear once you have entered their birth date.  First games will be in early September and the season will conclude on November 18.

Coaches Meeting:
A coaches meeting will take place late March at the Old Airport Soccer Shed.  The meeting is necessary for those looking to volunteer as head coaches during the 2023 Spring Season.  In addition to receiving their rosters and gear, coaches will be caught up on all the latest developments regarding the upcoming season.

Registrations After The Coaches Meeting:
The registration window will continue after the coaches meeting but teams will have already been formed.  Depending on the status of the division, registrations received after September 1, 2023 will be placed into one of four categories:

   1)  Placed on a team with an open slot
   2)  Placed on a waiting list for the purpose that enough wait listed players register to form additional teams
   3)  Placed on a new team with players from the wait list
   4)  Notified that the division in unfortunately closed

First Practices:
After the coaches meeting, coaches will begin contacting the players to introduce themselves and provide the date(s) and time(s) for practices.  While coaches will be highly encouraged to make contact with their players ASAP, please give your coach a day or two to make contact.  It is important as a parent/guardian to respond to any emails or phone messages from the coach to ensure everyone is on the same page.  Practices will take place at either the Old Airport Soccer Field or at a designated location in Kealakekua (for our Mauka teams) and all games will be played at Old Airport.  AYSO Kona recommends once a week practices 6U division and twice a week for the 8U and above divisions.

Teams Without Coaches:
As an all-volunteer organization, it is not uncommon to have more teams than coaches at the beginning of the season and we work diligently to find coaches for all teams as quickly as possible.  If you are a parent that has not received an email or phone call from your coach or if you are interested in becoming a coach, please contact our regional commission, Tim, at [email protected]

Age Divisions

For Fall 2022 and Spring 2023, division ages are determined based calendar year and the MY2022 column in the chart below.  The birth years grouped together determine age eligibility for the even numbered division (i.e., 6U is children with birthdates between 1/1/2017 - 12/31/2018; 8U is children with birthdates between 1/1/2015 - 12/31/2016, etc.).

Rules and Exceptions

No player may play down into a younger division. Players with issues that parents feel necessitate playing down are encouraged to consider our VIP program.

May players "play up" in an older age division?  Yes, but playing up is not encouraged and requires approval of the affected division coordinators or the Regional Coach Administrator.  The player must demonstrate an ability to play at the level  of the older age group without endangering him or her self, and we typically require the parent to volunteer as a coach or assistant coach for the team so the parent is present with the younger-aged player at practices and games.  Please contact the division coordinators with questions.

Can High School Students play?  Yes, but under-14 players currently in high school must play in the 16 and under age division unless they have absolutely no intention of playing soccer in high school. Due to CIF rules, players may not play on both their high school team and an outside team at the same time. The recognized date for the start of high school soccer is the Monday following Thanksgiving. 16U's are scheduled to finish play by Thanksgiving and thereby allowing participation on the high school team in accordance with CIF rules. 14 and under teams continue into December with playoff champions continuing further, and therefore continued play on a 14U team after Thanksgiving either places their high school team in CIF violation or creates an unfair situation for the AYSO 14U team when the player quit.
